Hawaii Governor David Ige has declared an (1) emergency due to heavy rains that caused floods, landslides and concerns about failing dams.
Meanwhile, several thousand residents have been ordered to (2) evacuate from communities struck by rising waters.
There are also reports that homes have been destroyed after dams overflowed on the island of Maui.

Rains are expected through Friday, so flood advisories will remain in place, said officials.
The (3) emergency declaration covers the counties of Hawai’i, Maui, Kalawao, O’ahu, and Kaua’i.

The Honolulu Department of Emergency Management has provided direction to evacuate residents of Haleiwa, a community with a population of a few thousand people. It is located north of the state capital Honolulu.
