The grammar shows events that are currently taking place.
This can be seen from the use of the phrase "it's midnight".
That phrase indicates that the event is happening as the speaker speaking.
- was + passing is a past continuous tense
The grammar shows an ongoing event in the past.
This can be seen from the word "yesterday" which is the adverb of time that shows the event happened in the past time.
- will be + passing is a future continuous tense
The grammar shows events that will occur in the future.
This can be seen from the word "tomorrow" which is the adverb of time that shows the event has not yet started and will occur in the future.
