Because of that her mother felt really sad.
Then, the mother prayed to God and begged Him to punish her daughter.

Solution
At the end of the story, the girl finally got her punishment, she turned into a stone statue whose eyes never stopped shedding tears.
Interesting point of the story
The interesting point of the story by the writer itslf is the incident when a child refused to acknowledge her own mother and when a mother asked God to punish her child.
